Sad report: Bend Crash Kills 18-Year-Old Redmond Student 5 injured

A two-car collision on Reed Market Road and American Lane on Tuesday night claimed the life of an 18-year-old Redmond resident. About 8:07 p.m., according to Bend Police, Chase Turnbull, 18, of Bend, was driving east on SE Reed Market Road approaching SE American Lane when he collided with a Subaru Impreza that was attempting to turn left from Reed Market into American Lane. Turnbull was operating a blue Ford pickup. 19-year-old Bend resident Marshall Sarabia was operating the Impreza, with 18-year-old Bend resident Brooklyn Klaus occupying the back seat and 18-year-old Redmond resident Connor Hunt in the passenger seat. The crash claimed the life of Redmond Proficiency Academy senior Hunt. There were no other injuries recorded.

RPA Director Jon Bullock informed the school’s families about the tragedy via email on Wednesday. “The entire RPA community is impacted by such an unforeseen tragedy. We should assist one another at this difficult time because everyone reacts differently to unexpected loss,” he wrote. “Tomorrow at school, and in the days to come, if you or your student needs support, time, or space to process this loss, our counselors are available and prepared to provide assistance.” Up until 2:15 a.m., SE Reed Market Road and SE American Lane were stopped for investigation. The Oregon Department of Transportation and Bend Public Works collaborated to help close the streets while the inquiry was underway.

Police said that preliminary evidence suggests that both automobiles entered the junction on a yellow signal, but the investigation is still ongoing. Each and every person in both cars had on a seat belt. The Bend Police Department’s number to report any witnesses to the collision is 541-693-6911.
