one lane of I-275 eastbound still shut down near Dixie Highway after car fire

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – At least one lane of eastbound Interstate 275 remained closed Thursday at Dixie Highway in Northern Kentucky due to a car fire on Wednesday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet tweeted that drivers on I-275 eastbound and the ramps from Interstate 75 to I-275 eastbound should be alert for lane closures and traffic backups.

The I-275 eastbound right lane on the overpass above Dixie Highway just before reaching exit 82 to KY 1303 (Turkeyfoot Road) was shut down overnight into Thursday morning due to pavement damage sustained from the vehicle fire that occurred around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said on Twitter that District 6 crews will be out early Thursday morning to begin patching the damage with the goal of having the lane back open by the evening commute.

Kenton County Dispatch said multiple cars were involved, and the initial report was four injuries.

Fort Mitchell Fire Department officials later said two vehicles were on fire, though they did not confirm how many cars were involved, nor did they say whether it was the crash that led to the fire or the fire that led to the crash.

One person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
