
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A Summerville woman is dead and two other people injured from a two-vehicle head-on collision just outside Cottageville Tuesday, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue.
South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the collision occurred around 9:08 p.m. on US Highway 17-A, two miles north of Cottageville.
Troopers say a 2020 Ford van was traveling north and a 2016 Lincoln sedan was traveling south when the Lincoln sedan crossed the center of the road and hit the Ford van. The Ford van traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.
Fire officials said teams arrived on scene and discovered the Lincoln with heavy damage blocking the southbound lane, a delivery cargo van overturned on the northbound shoulder, and debris scattered across the highway.
The driver of the Lincoln sedan died following the collision, according to the SCHP. The driver of the Ford van, who was the sole occupant, and a passenger in the Lincoln sedan were taken to an area hospital.All occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
Cottageville Highway was closed for approximately three and a half hours. Firefighters used Holmatro Pentheon rescue tools to remove both driver’s side doors and extricate the deceased driver, fire officials said.
