Brisbane Police mourn officer killed in a motorcycle crash during charity ride
police are mourning an officer who died in a motorcycle accident yesterday afternoon while on a memorial charity ride.
Senior Sergeant Brendan Wiblen, 58, joined his colleagues on the Wall to Wall Ride event for fallen police officers, which departed from Brisbane.
About 20 kilometres east of Glen Innes in NSW, Wiblen was attempting to overtake another rider when he lost control and went down an embankment, NSW Police said.
Emergency services were called at about 3:20pm, and members of the public performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Despite their efforts, Wiblen died at the scene.
Wiblen’s police colleagues paid tribute to the dedicator officer and gave their sympathies to his family.
“Our thoughts are with Brendan’s loved ones, who are dealing with this tragic loss,” South Eastern Region Assistant Commissioner Brian Swan said.
“The police family stands together in grief and will continue to support Brendan’s family during this unimaginable time.
“Brendan was a dedicated officer who served with distinction throughout his career. He was highly thought of by his colleagues and was known for his attention to detail and quick wit.
“His service to the community will not be forgotten, and our thoughts are with all those who knew Brendan during this incredibly difficult time.”
