ROGERSVILLE, Mo. — The small town of Rogersville is in shock after two teens died and one teen was injured in a crash Thursday night on Highway 60, just outside city limits.
Authorities say the car crossed Highway 60 just east of town when it was hit by a semi-truck.
All three teens were wearing safety devices, per the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), and one teen survived with moderate injuries.
“We feel this even though we may not know them directly with the small knit community that we have, it still trickles down through the whole community,” Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District Deputy Fire Chief Travis Trent said.
Logan-Rogersville Schools have confirmed the two teens were students within the district, issuing a statement that says, “Our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences to the families affected.”
“The Logan-Rogersville School District asks our community to keep these families and friends in your thoughts and prayers,” the district said. “LRHS will have additional support available for students and staff during summer school on Monday, June 2nd.”
“I was talking to Dr. Valentine last night, the superintendent, and this I think he said this is like the fourth or fifth that we’ve had in the last two years of out of the high school, and it is unfortunate,” Trent said.
At this time, no names have been officially released publicly.
Keaton Garrett, a youth leader with YoungLife, says he knew the two teens that passed as well and describes them as “happy kids.”
“It was awesome for them to be with us,” Garrett said. “I have multiple memories of her, asking me like how my day was and you know, normally you’re like, ‘good, how is yours’, but I was thinking today I was like, she was legitimately asking me genuinely how my day was. It was just a neat thing to experience somebody so genuine.”
Many people have told Ozarks First that the two teens were in a relationship.
“He was always really sweet to his girlfriend. I mean, you know, high school relationships can be [silly], but there was never a hint of anything [like that] with them. They were just always next to each other, always happy, and he just treated her really kindly,” Garrett said.
