Darren Bent has praised Tottenham Hotspur for how Spurs dug in to win 1-0 away to Luton Town with 10 players but feels Son Heung-Min was ‘quiet’ at Kenilworth Road.

A sole goal from Micky van de Ven proved the difference as Tottenham took the three points at Luton. Intelligent play from James Maddison inside the Hatters’ box saw the maestro earn his fifth assist of the season. The win even also moved Spurs atop the Premier League table.

Tottenham hold a slender lead at the top with champions Manchester City visiting title rivals Arsenal on Sunday. Quick thinking from Dejan Kulusevski moved the ball to Maddison ahead of him assisting Van de Ven and taking the top spot even with Spurs down to just 10 players.

Bent felt Son was ‘quiet’ as Tottenham shone at Luton

Referee John Brooks was brave enough to show Yves Bissouma a second yellow card after a blatant dive. The midfielder was already on a caution having just dragged Chiedozie Ogbene down. Yet he let Spurs down right after by trying to win a free kick on the edge of the area.

Tottenham fought through with 10 players to claim a 1-0 win at Luton and impress Bent. But the ex-Spurs striker felt Son failed to shine as Maddison and Van de Ven secured Tottenham three points at Luton. He also alluded to how Postecoglou is making do without Harry Kane.

“They’ve stepped up really well,” Bent told Premier League Productions (14:41, 07/10). “No Harry Kane anymore, Son had a quiet day today day. They had to find a different way to win today. They had to dig in, they went down to 10 men early, but they managed to hang on.”

Son had his chances to shine but lacked the final touch

Son had a few chances to shine as Tottenham beat Luton but did not give enough to impress Bent. Postecoglou also took the £22m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015 off after 76 minutes for Emerson Royal. Son wasted his best shot after Tom Lockyer’s poor clearance.

Emerson’s introduction saw Son depart having attempted three shots but with just one sent on target, per WhoScored. He had also offered two key passes, though, with only Maddison (4) and Pape Matar Sarr (3) recording more. But those came from only 17 completed passes.
