Leicester City defender Wout Faes has admitted he held discussions about a move away this summer, but ultimately decided against it.

The center-back has been chatting with Humo about his job at Leicester and their season-long relegation from the Championship.

After selling Wesley Fofana to Chelsea late in the summer of last year, the defender joined the Foxes, and manager Brendan Rodgers threw him right in at the deep end.

He had a bit of a rough beginning to life at the club, but he finally turned things around and became one of Leicester’s better players in a catastrophic season.

That means there are likely to be suitors for him in the summer transfer window, with some of the Foxes’ biggest players, such as James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans, all aiming to new pastures.

Faes have chosen to stay where they are, but admit there have been discussions about possibly leaving King Power.

“There have been discussions,” he said.

“But there is no point in choosing a club where I will sit on the bench. It will be detrimental to my position in the national team.

The goal of Faes and his teammates now is to ensure a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. It is a task they look keen to accomplish, with a brilliant start under Enzo Maresca seeing them win four of their opening five matches and take 12 points from 15 so far.

They are currently second in the Championship and just one point behind leaders Preston, a position many believe they can maintain or improve on in the coming months.

That is certainly the club’s aim and Faes admits he believes a title-chasing season with Leicester could bring more benefits than a mid-table finish in the Premier League.

“We are playing for the title. Is it better to chase an elusive ball in the Premier League all season? he added. “The level in the Championship is nothing. In England, people say this is the toughest tournament in the world.
