Collingwood vice-captain Taylor Adams has requested a trade to Sydney but the Pies are set to dig their heels in, labelling the star midfielder a “required player and leader”.

The club revealed on Sunday the 30-year-old, who is contracted until the end of next season, has asked to move to the Swans.

However, the Pies gave no indication they would facilitate the trade in a statement.

“Collingwood can confirm Taylor Adams has requested a trade to the Sydney Swans in the upcoming Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period,” the statement read.

“Taylor is contracted until the end of 2024 and is a required player and leader.

“The Club will discuss the request with Sydney.”

Adams played 23 games this season but missed the Magpies’ grand final victory over Brisbane with injury.

He was in tears during the premiership celebrations, having hurt his hamstring at training during the finals series.

Adams was originally drafted to Greater Western Sydney but moved to Collingwood prior to the 2014 season.

He’s played 175 of his 206 career games in black and white, including the 2018 grand final, where he was the Pies’ best player in the loss to West Coast.
