Steve Cooper has confirmed that Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood will miss the game against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The 31-year-old scored a double against Luton Town in the last game at the City Ground but missed the trip to Anfield last weekend.

After the defeat, Cooper revealed that the 31-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury during the week, subsequently missing the match.

Yesterday, the boss gave a more detailed answer as to how long the striker would be missing.

Cooper confirms Wood will be missing for Villa

Speaking at his pre-match press conference yesterday, Cooper admitted that Wood would be out until after the next international break.

“Woody has a hamstring injury and I don’t think we’ll see him before the international break.

“That’s for sure, that will give him two weeks to recover, so I think the next time we’ll see him is after the next international break.”

Forest short on numbers

With no return date set for Divock Origi and Taiwo Awoniyi still struggling with injury, Cooper could well find himself without a recognised centre forward on Sunday.

Winger Anthony Elanga started in a central role against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last weekend, with it clear to see he was playing in an unnatural role.

Forest fans and Cooper will be hoping Wood can return quicker than expected, with the 31-year-old impressing against Luton before his injury.
