After his performance against Sheffield United, Everton star Jordan Pickford received praise from Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend.

TalkSPORT (4/9 9:57am) featured the two talking about their favourite weekend players.

When Everton went to Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime, it was a crucial game for the bottom of the table.

Both players realised how much a win would mean because they had no points when the day began.

With Abdoulaye Doucoure’s early goal, Sean Dyche’s club scored its first league goal of the year, relieving some of the burden on the group.

Before Jordan Pickford scored a very sad own goal, Cameron Archer had an unfair amount of ease in tying the score.

The Toffees eventually grabbed a point thanks to Arnaut Danjuma’s first goal for the team, but not before Pickford made the largest contribution of the day.

McCoist highlighted Pickford’s overall contribution to Everton ahead of the international break.

The 29-year-old will almost certainly wear the number one shirt for the Three Lions against Ukraine on Saturday.

In the final minutes of the game, Sheffield United were awarded a corner and Ollie McBurnie headed high towards the Everton goal.

Pickford made a brilliant first save before the ball returned to the Scottish striker but was repelled by another brilliant save.

Reflecting on his performance on TalkSPORT, Andy Townsend said:

“My goalkeeper has to be Jordan Pickford this weekend.”
