A fifteen-minute hat-trick on matchday seven saw Serhou Guirassy set a new Bundesliga record for the most goals after the first seven league games. His total tally of thirteen league goals thus far this season leaves him five clear of Harry Kane and Stuttgart four points clear of Bayern Munich – prior to Die Rekordmeister’s clash with Freiburg.

If the Guinea international were to continue scoring with such frequency, then he would end the campaign with a staggering 63 league goals. While it would be difficult to imagine Guirassy achieving such a feat, it highlights how impressive and clinical Guirassy has been this season.

However, with the 27-year-old’s goals firing Stuttgart to the top of the Bundesliga table, it begs the question: did Bayern miss out? As reported by Bild, Lothar Matthäus had recommended Guirassy to the German champions in May.

Had Bayern acted upon Matthäus’s suggestion, then Die Rekordmeister would have saved €80m on their striker acquisition. This is because, after signing permanently with Die Roten at the end of last season, Guirassy’s €20m release clause would have saved the Bavarians a significant amount of money, with Kane costing an eye-watering €100m.

Nevertheless, the England captain is undoubtedly the more complete player and suits the way in which Die Rekordmeister play far more. Regardless, it would have been interesting to see whether Guirassy could have replicated his goalscoring antics at the Allianz Arena.
