The Boston Celtics have lost assistant coaches to other clubs after winning their 18th ring last month. Thankfully, Sam Cassell has pledged to remain a member of Joe Mazzulla’s coaching team. As the Celtics get ready to defend their NBA championship the following season, they are making some personnel adjustments within their coaching staff. Leading assistant Charles Lee has been chosen the Charlotte Hornets’ next head coach, and he is taking a few Celtics coaches with him.

The Hornets have revealed that former Celtics point guard Kemba Walker, along with Jermaine Bucknor and Blaine Mueller, will be working under Lee in Charlotte. Mueller guided the Maine Celtics to the Finals during a productive G-League season. After a fruitful pro career abroad, Bucknor joined Joe Mazzulla’s coaching staff in Boston for a single year before making the move to the NBA.

Furthermore, senior consultant Jeff Van Gundy left the Celtics to accept a position as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers. The bulk of the Celtics’ squad will return despite these adjustments as they prepare to defend their championship the following year.
