Before the match against Burnley, Unai Emery updated information about Emi Martinez’s injury.

Unai Emery has confirmed Emi Martinez will be assessed in Aston Villa’s final training session ahead of the match against Burnley.

Martinez was substituted at half-time in the 5-0 win over Hibernian at Easter Road on Wednesday night after feeling a bit uncomfortable. Robin Olsen came on as Argentina’s number one after Villa took a three-goal lead at half-time.

Victory over Hibs followed a 4-0 win over Everton at Villa Park, a much-needed result after Emery’s men lost 1-5 to Newcastle United on the opening weekend of the new season.

In Sunday’s game at Turf Moor, Villa were absent Alex Moreno and Jacob Ramsey, but both players are set to return, while Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia are both long-term absent.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference at Bodymoor Heath, Emery said of Martinez’s injury:
“He did not train today and we will wait until tomorrow. He has a little pain in his calf, it’s not serious, it’s just a little sore.

“We have to take our time and tomorrow is our last training session before Sunday’s game. This is the day to make a decision whether he is ready or not.”
