In order to free up salary budget space, the Buffalo Bills had to cut a number of players from their roster earlier this week. On the plus side, though, those players now have more time to find new homes before free agency opens on Wednesday. Siran Neal, a former standout defensive back and star on special teams who was just cut by the Bills, is making the most of this fortunate circumstance. Two days before free agency begins, on Monday, Neal is scheduled to visit with the New York Giants, as reported by Cameron Wolfe ofNeal, 29, was selected from Jacksonville State in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Having played at least 240 special teams snaps in each of his six seasons in Buffalo, he mostly earned his keep as a special teams player. In 97 games with the Bills, Neal totaled 115 tackles on defense. The Giants have ties to the Bills in multiple ways because both head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen worked for the team before leaving for New York City in 2021.
The Giants will need to overcome a few of Neal’s former AFC East rivals if they hope to acquire him. The New England Patriots and New York Jets are reportedly interested in him as well, according to CBS Sports, though neither team has scheduled a visit with him yet. The Bills were able to save just under $3 million in cap space on Wednesday by dismissing Neal.
