The Boston Bruins have not fared well since the All-Star Break. They no longer resemble the squad they were earlier in the season and now trail the Florida Panthers in the Atlantic Division. The NHL trade deadline is on March 8, which is General Manager (GM) Don Sweeney’s final opportunity to bolster his squad this week. His team needs a lot of improvements and acquisitions this season, and it’s doubtful that he will be able to meet them all. Even whether he will be able to handle some of them is debatable.

As Boston is now in a slump, second-year head coach Jim Montgomery is searching for solutions, but he’s having trouble finding them. Their timetable is really demanding.

Although the Bruins behind the Panthers by just two points, you get the impression that Florida will catch up to them given their current winning streak and the difficulties the Black and Gold are facing. If so, the Toronto Maple Leafs have two games remaining and are now six points behind Boston in the standings.

Toronto is rapidly approaching. They get two chances to play the Bruins this week and have won nine of their previous ten games. They visit the TD Garden on March 7, the evening before the trade deadline, following their Monday night (March 4) hosting. The Maple Leafs have won two games in regulation this week, bringing them even closer.
