Andy Murray mocked his British rival Liam Broady after he suffered a car accident. The 30-year-old tennis player, whose highest ranking was World No. 93, recently withdrew from the Rothesay Open in Nottingham due to an unusual injury over the weekend.
Liam Broady shared with his fans on social media that he suffered a concussion after hitting his head on the trunk of his car. He also mentioned that he hopes to be back in a couple of weeks: “Some bad news… Was on track for next week but I hit my head on my car boot on Sunday evening quite hard.
“Tried to practise yesterday and got a pretty bad migraine,” Broady posted. “Turns out I have a concussion! So won’t be ready for Nottingham. . Hopefully Ilkley if all goes to plan,” he added about the tournament which starts on June 15.
“Think this is the first time I’ve read one of your tweets and believed it,” the 3-times Grand Slam champion Andy Murray said. “Andy, big fan always and forever but why do you despise this bloke so much? Always elite twitter discourse from you,” some fan responded.
This is not the first time they have had an exchange on social media. In January of this year, the former world No. 1 opined on a commentator’s criticism of Mirra Andreeva at the 2024 Australian Open:
“Andreeva down 5-1 in third. Commentator “she really needs to work on mental side of her game.. she’s too hard on herself when she’s losing” 30 minutes later 7-6 Andreeva wins,” the 2-times Wimbledon champion wrote. Maybe the reason she turned the match round is because of her mental strength. Maybe she turned the match around because she is hard on herself and demands more of herself when she’s losing/playing badly? Winner,” Murray added.
“Mental strength is the wrong phrase. To come from 5-1 down in the third in a slam at her age is great mental strength. But perhaps if she had greater mental composure she wouldn’t have gone 5-1 down in the third in the first place?” Liam Broady responded.
“I don’t understand your tweet. You said mental strength is the wrong phrase and then in the next sentence say coming from 5-1 down is great mental strength. Liam Broady the walking contradiction.
On another occasion, Murray mocked Broady’s footwork.: “Footwork speed is the wrong phrase. To move like that at 12 years old is incredible footwork speed. But perhaps if you had better footwork composure you wouldn’t have had the problems with your feet in the first place?”
