Andy Murray’s warm embrace at the net with Stan Wawrinka after their first-round duel at the 2024 French Open on Sunday, May 26, has drawn a reaction from the Brit’s mother and childhood coach Judy. The 64-year-old notably was in attendance at Roland Garros on Sunday to cheer her son on.

Murray was overwhelmed by Wawrinka’s discipline in the first round as he could create no more than two break points and convert none during the match. Wawrinka, on the other hand, put on a clinical display to win 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 on the back of four break points.

Also, the Swiss smashed 35 winners and bagged 92 out of 170 total points played. He maintained a conversion rate of 79 percent on his first serve and 56 percent on the second to show Murray the door. With the win, Wawrinka narrowed Murray’s head-to-head lead to 13-10.

After the match point, the old foes held a relatively long conversation on the net while embracing each other. Murray, in particular, could be seen voicing his emotions more as Wawrinka listened patiently. A video clip of their exchange was posted by Roland Garros on their official X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption that read:

“Nothing but RESPECT”
