RomoCop is in hot water with some federal authorities.

Former NFL linebacker Bill Romanowski filed for bankruptcy on Monday and allegedly owes $15.5 million in back taxes, according to USA Today.

The filing came a day before a scheduled hearing in a lawsuit brought by the federal government against Romanowski and his wife, Julie, last year. That lawsuit alleges that the Romanowskis used the nutrition company, Nutrition53, to illegally avoid paying federal taxes.

Nutrition53 filed for bankruptcy last year; the justice department alleges that Romanowski and his wife used company accounts to pay for a range of personal expenses.

Romanowski spent parts of 16 NFL seasons with the 49ers, Eagles, Broncos and Raiders. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and won four Super Bowls.

He was best known, though, for some of his on-field altercations, which included kicking, punching and spitting at opponents during games. In 2003, he ended a teammate’s career by crushing his eye socket with a punch. ESPN once ranked him among the five dirtiest players in team sports.
