CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Louisville teen was hospitalized after a car crash that occurred on June 4, 2024.

Brandon Pittman, 17, was life-flighted to Akron Children’s Hospital after the accident. When doctors first responded to the teen, they were told his injuries had been so severe, he might not survive.

“Everybody actually went down thinking that we were going to be talking to the family about how we weren’t going to be able to do anything,” Pediatric Neurosurgeon at Akron Children’s Hospital Gwyneth Hughes said.

“When we got here and got to the room, and the first (thing) we do is kind of get an assessment for ourselves about what’s going on– and the first thing I saw was him reaching to pull his breathing tube out.”

Pittman’s father, Brian Pittman had arrived at the scene just before emergency services had to transport him.

“To get that few moments before they took off, and whisper in his ear to keep fighting, don’t give up, and we’ll be right there behind you, meant a lot,” father Brian Pittman said.

Brian Pittman said that his son is a fighter, and this battle is not lost yet.

“The stories are going through this hospital that there’s a 17 year old kid, from Louisville, OH that shouldn’t of made it– and he’s doing things that should not be done yet,” Brian Pittsman said.

While Brandon Pittman’s mother says she is in awe of her son’s progress within the past week.

“Everyone was where they were supposed to be that day to help our son, and that is the grace of god,” mother Melissa Pittman said.

The Pittman family has since started a GoFundMe to help cover medical expenses.
