Highly-ranked 2025 wide receiver Jaime Ffrench has decommitted from Alabama, he announced Sunday evening.

Ffrench had committed to Alabama last July and was 247 Sports’ No. 29 overall player in the 2025 class, with a four-star rating. He is ranked No. 11 nationally in 247 Sports’ industry composite, with a five-star rating.

Ffrench’s primary recruiter at Alabama, tight ends coach Joe Cox, is not expected to be retained under Kalen DeBoer’s new coaching staff. Nick Sheridan is expected to follow DeBoer from Washington as tight ends coach.

Ffrench told Noles247’s Zac Blostein that Cox informed him about Nick Saban’s retirement last week. Ffrench still plans to visit Tuscaloosa and has a call with the new staff set for Monday.

“What I just took from the staff that’s still there at ‘Bama who didn’t leave, they told me nobody is not going to want Jaime Ffrench when they walk through the door,” he said. “So just wait it out and see what’s next. Then, If I’m not feeling their vibe. That’s when I’ll react to that.”

The Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin standout said Florida State was the top threat to flip him from Alabama.

“Definitely Florida State, they’re number one right now,” Ffrench said. “Ohio State, even Michigan, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina. A lot of schools I haven’t even heard from. Even Texas A&M, with coach [Holmon] Wiggins there. Just a lot of local schools — not really nothing West Coast, North, nothing like that. Just local stuff.”

Ffrench is the second wide receiver to decommit from Alabama since Saban’s retirement. Hours after the news broke, 2024 five-star receiver Ryan Williams pulled his pledge from the Tide about a month after reclassifying.

Alabama still has six prospects committed to its 2025 class, which is No. 6 in 247 Sports’ team rankings.
