The Lions lost the game after they were penalized on a two-point try for illegal touching despite claims by the team that offensive lineman Taylor Decker – who caught the pass that would have given Detroit the one-point win – reported as an eligible receiver. Players and coaches asserted that Decker told officials he would be an eligible receiver on the play and video evidence appears to show Decker talking to officials before the play, but the call was not reversed and the Lions failed to convert the two-point try on the ensuing attempt. But, according to Brown, the NFL rulebook gives Goodell the authority to overturn the result of the game.
