For the first time ever, we got to hear Bill Belichick’s immediate reaction to a New England Patriots draft pick.

The former Patriots coach was part of ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage Thursday night, joining The Pat McAfee Show live from Detroit.

Shortly after New England made the pick at No. 3, the broadcast turned to Belichick for his thoughts.

“I think that’s certainly a top need for them, quarterback, tackle and wide receiver. So this is one of the top needs.

“Drake compares himself a lot to Josh Allen. He’s been doing that for quite a while. We’ll see about that. I think there are some similarities, size and athleticism, but Josh Allen’s a pretty special player now.”

“A very talented quick, good size, runs well, has a good arm. He hasn’t played very much. He doesn’t have a lot of experience. He makes some big plays.”

After parting ways with New England earlier this offseason, Belichick appears poised to jump to the media side of things in 2024. The NFL Draft marked Belichick’s first major live media appearance since leading Foxborough.
