Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud believes the Chicago Bears would be smart to keep former Ohio State teammate Justin Fields as the team’s starting quarterback, instead of trading him and drafting Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams in a resurfaced interview.

The Bears hold the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft. Williams is a lock to be chosen first overall. The only question is whether Chicago selects the former USC star, or another team trades into that spot.

Stroud and Fields were in the Buckeyes’ quarterback room together for one season in 2020, with Stroud serving as Fields’ backup during Ohio State’s run to the national championship game.

Both Fields and Stroud became first-round draft picks with different levels of success. Stroud recently won the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award after a stellar first season with the Texans.

Fields has been the Bears’ primary starter for the last three seasons and the team has yet to win more than seven games in one year with him directing the offense. Chicago’s overall roster has not given Fields much help over than span too.
