With speculation as to Christian Horner’s future at Red Bull very much being debated, Sergio Perez has come out and publicly backed his beleaguered team principal as the scandal involving a female employee refuses to die down.

After being cleared of any wrongdoing in an internal Red Bull investigation, Horner has seen leaks of alleged text messages involving himself and the woman in question, and Jos Verstappen, father of star driver Max, publicly call for him to step down.

He’s obviously a very important person in our organisation, and the job that he’s done over the years, speak for themselves.  And I think Christian is a key team player in this organisation. And I think he’s fully focused on on the racing side.”

“I don’t know what’s going on. At the end of the day, I’m a racing driver and that’s what I’m here to do. I don’t get into politics, I drive the car as quickly as I can, as fast as I can. I prepare the very best I can.

Following the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, Horner was adamant that he would remain in charge of Red Bull. The team bagged their first 1-2 of the new Formula 1 season and he is no longer under investigation.

Then came Jos Verstappen’s bombshell announcement that if Horner remained at the helm of Red Bull, the team would explode and the situation could not stay as is.

“There is tension here while he remains in position,” Jos Verstappen told the Daily Mail after the Bahrain GP.
