While the Vancouver Whitecaps and CF Montréal make moves to bolster their squads ahead of a fast approaching 2024 season, Toronto FC haven’t done anything but add a bit more GAM to the coffers thanks to a trade with Atlanta United. They’ve hardly even been linked with incoming moves. Until now.

Toronto FC supposedly have their eye on Aberdeen defender Angus MacDonald.

The 31-year-old only joined the Scottish club in January 2023, but after appearing in 25 matches with the club is attracting interest from English teams, albeit seemingly League One interest which some may argue is on par with MLS, we know that simply isn’t true.

MacDonald has played his entire 13-year career in Britain and has made 10 appearances this season, spending much of it on the bench.

Bringing in a 31-year-old without zero MLS experience seems like a risk that John Herdman would prefer to avoid, or at least minimize the number of players he brings into the club in said situation.

MacDonald has bounced around quite a bit since making his debut with Reading in 2010. After several loan stints the defender moved on and has played for Torquay, Barnsley Hull City and Swindon Town, amongst many others, before making his move north to Aberdeen last winter.

Aberdeen finished third in their UEFA Europa Conference League group last fall, behind PAOK and Eintracht Frankfurt.
