When it was reported on Saturday night that the Kansas City Chiefs and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones had reached a big multiyear contract, it sent the football world into a frenzy. Jones will remain in Kansas City for next seasons, which will probably coincide with the majority or all of his prime, thanks to the five-year agreement. With some time having passed, the details of the Jones deal are becoming clearer.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk wrote a piece on Sunday night that goes into greater depth about the terms of Jones’s contract. Florio’s report states that the contract is for $158.75 million over five years. It can be imaginatively seen as a three-year agreement with practical promises for those years totaling $95.3M. The Chiefs have some flexibility in the long run, and contract restructures may affect

Jones will receive a $30 million signing bonus. Of it, $18 million is due by April 5 of this year, and the remaining $12 million is due the next year. The details of which monies are guaranteed at signing and when other guarantees take effect are fully explained in Florio’s essay. Below is a basic outline of the allegedly finalized arrangement as of right now: 2024: $1.25M base pay with a bonus of $100,000 for off-season exercise Base pay of $13.75 million, roster bonus of $15 million, and off-season workout incentive of $100,000 in 2025 $19 million basic pay, $16 million roster bonus, and $100,000 bonus for off-season workouts in 2026
