The ECHL announced that the league’s board of governors voted to terminate the Growlers’ membership in the league “for failure to fulfill its obligations under the ECHL bylaws.”

“We are saddened to lose ECHL hockey in the Newfoundland market,” ECHL commissioner Ryan Crelin said in a statement. “We’d like to thank the Growlers fans and partners for their support of the team throughout their existence, and are hopeful that hockey can return to the region for their dedicated and passionate fanbase.”

The Growlers had six games remaining on its 2023-24 schedule.

Players on AHL contracts are expected to join the Toronto Marlies.

The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia product spent three seasons with Quinnipiac collecting 38 goals and 55 assists for 93 points in 116 games. During the 2022-23 campaign, Quillan scored 19 goals and 38 points in 41 games en route to winning the NCAA ECAC Championship and the NCAA Championship. Quillan was named the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament MVP and named to the NCAA All-Tournament All-Star Team. In 2021-2022, Quinnipiac captured the NCAA ECAC Championship.

Prior to his NCAA tenure, Quillan spent one season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Penticton Vees and notched 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 20 games. Quillan was drafted by the Quebec Remparts during the 2018 Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Entry Draft.
