If Darko Gyabi had secured a transfer before the deadline, Leeds United would have been pleased to approve it.

Gyabi became a target for teams on the final day of the summer transfer season when Valenciennes wanted to recruit him on a permanent basis for £5 million and Fleetwood Town tried to sign him on loan.

The midfielder was still under contract at Elland Road as the transfer window closed at 11 p.m., but he must now wait until January to leave Leeds.

On the Square Ball podcast, Phil Hay of The Athletic said that Leeds would have been content to release Gyabi.

Due to their midfield alternatives, the Whites were ready to approve the midfielder’s exit if he had organised a move.

Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev joined Leeds before the transfer window closed from Rangers and Werder Bremen, respectively.

Daniel Farke, the manager of the Whites, will be hoping that both players get off to a fast start.

Gyabi’s chances of playing right now are primarily in the Under-21s, where there is fierce rivalry for a starting position in the first squad.
