Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive brings you what is being said about Rooney’s move to Plymouth

Former Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney has completed a shock return to management by taking the vacant Plymouth Argyle job.

The former Derby County manager was confirmed as successor to Ian Foster today with Rooney having been out of management since he was sacked by Blues in January for a dismal run that saw them tumble out of the playoff positions and into a relegation fight.

And after he departed, the club lost their fight to stay in the Championship and will play League One football next season. Rooney is expected to take Pete Shuttleworth with him to Plymouth having worked alongside him at Derby, DC United and Birmingham.

A lot of Plymouth fans have opposed the appointment and Birmingham fans had plenty to say on social media in response. One fan said: “Birmingham fan in peace. I’d question whoever makes decisions at your Club because this is a horrendous one. Rooney had Rosenior at Derby who glossed it over. Failed at DC, & with #BCFC changed a confident, competent side. Awful manager.

Another added: “Seeing Plymouth fans being optimistic about Rooney probably being their manager is giving me serious flashbacks.”

A third said: “Rooney to Plymouth? Can honestly say I did not see that coming! Poor Plymouth fans have no idea what’s about to happen!”

A fourth added: “He took over from John Eustace at Birmingham City in 6th place and in a good position to reach the play offs. Rooney set us into free fall from which we didn’t recover and fell through the trapdoor. Good luck, you’re going to need it.
