The Red Sox have top prospect Marcelo Mayer in the minor leagues, but it’s seemingly too early for him to get a call-up to the big league club. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him in Boston at some point this season, but it doesn’t sound like a move is imminent.

Boston currently has Pablo Reyes and David Hamilton manning the position, but more needs to be done if the club wants to possibly get back to the postseason. The Red Sox need some help and one player who could make a lot of sense for the club is Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames.

He has been in trade rumors over the last year but remains in Milwaukee. Adames has gotten off to a solid start this season for the Brewers and has two home runs and four RBIs in 11 games played. He clubbed 24 home runs and drove in 80 runs last season and launched 31 home runs and drove in 98 runs in 2022.

Milwaukee is 8-3 on the season so it may be difficult to complete a trade, but Adames will be a free agent at the end of the season and seemingly won’t be returning. If the Red Sox could acquire him, he would be a perfect option to fill in for Story while the club waits for Mayer to get called up.
