Giovani Lo Cels was recently linked with a move away from Tottenham as Spurs prepare to sign him in January.

A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to listen to offers for Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso when the transfer window reopens in January.

The 27-year-old was loaned to Villarreal last season and is expected to leave Tottenham permanently this summer. However, he ended up staying at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and there are rumors that he could get more opportunities at the north London club this season.

It’s clear the Argentine midfielder, who joined Tottenham for £42.3m, has impressed Ange Postecoglou during pre-season. But the Australian coach has not given him enough opportunities this season.

Lo Celso has yet to start a Premier League match for Tottenham this season. So it makes sense for him to leave in January. He has been linked with a return to Spain in recent months, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. The technically gifted midfielder has proven his quality in La Liga in recent times and Real Betis are said to be monitoring him.

Lo Celso can operate as a central attacking midfielder as well as a winger. Tottenham are well stocked in both departments. So, they have not been able to provide him with opportunities this season. It makes sense for the player to move on and join a club where he will get first-team opportunities.

The Argentine international is at the peak of his powers, and he cannot afford to sit on the bench every week. It seems highly unlikely that he will get opportunities under Postecoglou as the season progresses.

Tottenham signed James Maddison from Leicester City during the summer transfer window, and the England international has hit the ground running at his new club. It is highly unlikely that Postecoglou will start Lo Celso ahead of the England international in the coming weeks.

Tottenham have made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign, and they are second in the league table. They are unlikely to make too many changes to a winning side, and the only way Lo Celso would get a look in is if there is a serious injury.

Keeping him at the club until the end of the season could be beneficial for the North London club as they could use the depth and options at their disposal. However, it would not benefit the player in any way, and he should look to push for a move away from Tottenham when the transfer window opens in January.
