ANAHEIM, CA — Red Sox third baseman Trevor Story had a subluxation of his left shoulder, and he is unsure if he will be able to play again in 2024. He hinted that he would make a comeback. Story stated, “I always have hope for that.”

Story is due to see a physician in Boston on Monday. The Red Sox are still obtaining information, according to Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow, so they are not sure if Story’s damaged shoulder will need surgery or if he will miss the remainder of the season.

It’s the kind of injury that occasionally calls for surgery. Miguel Bleis, a prospect for the Red Sox, had surgery in June of last year to correct a dislocation in his left shoulder. Breslow remarked, “I believe we’ll be in a much better position on Monday to provide some answers to those questions.”

Story spoke with reporters after the Red Sox’s 2-1 loss to the Angels on Saturday, and he was in a sad mood. About two and a half hours prior to the game, he had an MRI. Story stated that they were “still trying to gather all the information, all the opinions from everybody involved.” It’s a serious injury. However, I believe that we are holding off on making a diagnosis until we have received all of the views. On Friday, Story hurt his shoulder diving to his right to stop a ground ball. He described it as “a little strange.” Simply annoying, Story remarked. It’s just not enjoyable, dude. Getting hurt is not fun.
