The excitement surrounding OG Anunoby is still strong one month and a half before the trade deadline of February 8. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the New York Knicks have suddenly been rumoured as a team interested in signing the Toronto Raptors forward. It seems nothing was close to a contract involving RJ Barrett and Anunoby, despite New York’s brief discussions about one last season, according to Scotto. “Toronto will do whatever it takes to keep Anunoby in free agency this summer, according to NBA executives scouring the trade market for wings,” Scotto wrote.

Since Anunoby’s maximum extension offer is less than what he may anticipate earning in free agency, he practically cannot be signed to an extension during this season. This summer, a number of teams should have cap space, and Toronto may need to spend up to $40 million a season to keep Anunoby in free agency. It’s important to remember that the Raptors are the target of a lawsuit filed by the Knicks for allegedly taking confidential information from New York when former staff member Ike Azotam was signed by Toronto during the previous campaign. The claims have been refuted

Immanuel Quickley, a guard for the Knicks who is entering the final year of his deal with New York, is one player who might catch Toronto’s attention. According to Scotto, the Knicks’ contract negotiations have not resulted in an agreement, therefore he will be a restricted free agency come summer. It’s probable that New York tries to deal the sixth man, 24, before this year’s trade deadline.
