Celtic beat Kilmarnock 3-1 at the weekend to go seven points adrift at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Goals from Reo Hatate, Luis Palma and Greg Taylor were enough to see Derek McInnes’ side pull one back through David Watson to reduce the arrears to 2-1 at one stage.

However, it was a classy performance from Brendan Rodgers’ men as Palma made his first league start and finished impressively, scoring his second league goal in a row and his first at Celtic Park, adding to last weekend’s win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

The Honduran, who got the nod from Yang to start the match, did not let the Northern Irishman down, scoring with a superb strike from outside the box to double Celtic’s lead after a superb solo strike from Japanese playmaker Hatate.

Palma is fast becoming the new fan favorite in green and white and many of the faithful are now wondering if they finally have a full-back to fill the void left by Portugal winger Jota who left for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia for £25. summer a million?

The victory also saw the domestic return of American centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers who partnered the Cinderella story of the season Liam Scales in defence.

Rodgers revealed that Irishman Scales has been one of the biggest surprises of his managerial career.

The 50-year-old said: ” Liam Scales was outstanding and I am so happy for him. He is probably one of the biggest surprises for me in my career as a coach and only because I had not seen him play so much and there were other players ahead of him.

“Through one leaving and one being injured, I have seen enough in training to give him an opportunity. You ideally want a left-sided centre-back in your team who has good pace and intelligence and he has all of that.

“You can see in his performances that he has really grown as a player and I am so happy for him because there is a big focus on the Irish players when they come here but he has been outstanding.”
