Celtic legend Martin O’Neill has turned the heat up in the kitchen for new Rangers manager, Philippe Clement.

After sacking the supposed Rangers saviour Michael Beale, those at Ibrox have now turned to former Monaco coach, Philippe Clement as his replacement.

And, speaking to White & Jordan on talkSPORT (16/10/23 at 11:45 am), Martin O’Neill shared his thoughts on the man who has come in to try and overcome Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

Martin O’Neill was pretty blunt about the situation and how he doesn’t want to hear nonsense such as ‘we have a three-year plan’ because his simple task is to ‘win’ and ‘win’ only.

One thing Philippe Clement needs to learn and understand is that Celtic are the dominant force in Scotland, and barring a shambolic behind-closed-doors season, that has been the case for well over a decade now.

Therefore, being more realistic than his predecessor would be a start, as Martin O’Neil shared his thoughts on it all.

Rangers appoint Phillippe Clement

“Just win some football matches,” said O’Neill on what Clement needs to do. “You have to overtake Celtic, it’s as simple as that. That’s what you have to do.

“You need to do that relatively quickly. That’s the point – none of this, please don’t come in and say ‘you have a three-year plan or I want to see the youth players developed’, which I think he might be able to do.

“But, no, you have to win. And you win immediately.”

Seven-point lead

That’s the magic number and, as of this moment, it only feels like that it’s going to grow.

The great thing for the Bhoys is that, despite that lead, the feeling is that the team can still turn up the gears, with key players returning from injury.

And if this is indeed Celtic not being at their best, then things could become pretty messy for the new man in Rangers’ dugout.
