The Magpies midfielder is seeking a move away from Victoria.

Collingwood veteran Taylor Adams has submitted a trade request to become a Sydney Swans player from 2024.

Adams became the subject of a shock deal on Friday after it emerged the former Giants halfback was considering a return to New South Wales for a trade to the Swans.

The 30-year-old has signed a contract with the Magpies for the next 12 months and his desire for more midfield minutes is believed to be a factor in the potential move.

Sydney have already added to their roster via free agency for Melbourne baller James Jordon and are also looking to secure another Demon signing in Collingwood’s best and fairest Brodie Grundy.

Adams and Grundy could now be reunited in red and white in the coming weeks, with the club confirming on Sunday that the elder Magpie has informed his team-mates and the club that he wants to switch to the Swans.

“Collingwood can confirm that Taylor Adams has requested a trade from the Sydney Swans for the upcoming Continental Tires AFL trade period,” the club said in a statement. “Taylor is under contract until the end of 2024 and is a necessary player and leader.

“The club will discuss the request with Sydney.”

The Age reported that Sydney had signed Adams to a three-year deal. After joining the Magpies from GWS at the end of the 2013 season in a deal that saw Collingwood boss Heath Shaw go the other way, Adams joins his third club as the Victorian side give him the green light to go to the north

Adams played 175 games for Collingwood and won an All-Australian and Best and Fairest award in 2020.

Sydney currently has picks 11, 23, 31, 44 and 52 in next month’s national draft, as well as their entire selection for the 2024 census.

The Swans are also looking to sign Fremantle free agent Joel Hamling, who will not pay the club any trade capital.
