Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams was praised by Dave Edwards last night as Wales beat Gibraltar 4-0. The Reds player featured for an hour of the contest to get some minutes under his belt.

Wales will take on Croatia in a crucial qualifier over the weekend and Williams will likely start. The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order At Forest under Steve Cooper this season, playing just twice in the Premier League.

Williams has now played 31 games for his country and he remains an integral figure on the international stage. He will hope to use his performances for Wales as a chance to impress his boss at Forest.

Edwards praises Forest defender Williams

The man who played for Wolves and Wales among others during his career, was covering the game for BBC Sport. He was full of praise for the Forest man and he’s clearly a big fan of Williams.

After watching the 22-year-old torment Gibraltar, said on BBC Radio Wales: “It’s wonderful for Rob Page to have someone like Neco Williams, he can really raise the tempo of a football match.”

Williams was hooked after an hour of last night’s contest. That’s likely to be nothing sinister but more a sense of Page knowing how important he will be against Croatia at the weekend.

Williams will take confidence from latest performance

The cynics will say that this was only a good performance against Gibraltar. However, given a lack of game time for Williams, this will have been a refreshing night for the Forest man.

Having been involved in squads frequently last season, it won’t have been easy for Williams to sit on the fringes during 2023/24. There is a sense that the Forest man might have had a niggle but that’s unlikely to have made a difference in terms of game time.

This performance should do him good. He will take the plaudits with open arms and Williams will hope that when domestic football returns, he can play more games for Forest.
