In response to her partner David Fifita’s decision to back out of a $3.3 million contract with the Roosters and recommit to the Titans, Gold Coast forward Shaylee Bent expressed her relief. Fifita startled the NFL community earlier this month when he changed his mind about leaving the Titans at the end of the season.

Fifita first consented to play for the Roosters starting in the upcoming season, committing to a four-year contract and even turning down a competing offer from Penrith. But, during his ten-day cooling-off period, the highly sought-after player had second thoughts and ultimately pulled the trigger, choosing to re-sign with the Titans for an additional two seasons.

No one was probably happier than his partner that their great player had decided to stay, even though the Titans were relieved. Prior to the 2023 NRLW season, Bent signed a contract with the Titans following four seasons with the Dragons.

Her 2022 relationship with Fifita had a significant role in her choice to move to the Gold Coast. For a year, the couple maintained a distance relationship until she moved to Queensland.

Bent expressed her gratitude that they wouldn’t have to divide their time between Sydney and the Goldy again during her speech at the NRL’s Indigenous Round kickoff. “To be honest, I was really happy,” Bent said.

I relocated to the Gold Coast from Penrith, having previously lived in the Dragons. It makes me very happy to be able to spend a year on the Gold Coast full-time without having to travel great distances back and forth.

Although Bent’s contract expires at the end of the forthcoming NRLW season, which begins on July 25, she has made it clear that she intends to remain on the Gold Coast. “I’m so thankful that we’re both at the Titans this year and hopefully, for me next year as well because my life is up there now,” said Bent.

“I love my team and I’m really happy where I am at the Titans.” The triumph we experienced the previous year—advancing to the championship game after finishing last the year before. We’re developing something enormous, so I would like to be present for it.

“The Gold Coast is now our home, and David feels the same way. We adore the neighborhood, the supporters, the squad, and the club. We’re incredibly satisfied there since we’ve established a life.”
