The amount of wide receiver talent the University of Texas has lost to the NFL Draft this month just got a little easier to stomach.

Alabama wide receiver transfer Isaiah Bond announced on X Sunday morning that he has committed to the Longhorns, bringing to Austin one of the NCAA Transfer Portal’s most-coveted entrants.

After officially entering the transfer portal on Friday morning, it was reported almost immediately that he would visit Texas over the weekend. Bond led the Crimson Tide in catches with 48 to go along with 668 yards and four touchdowns.

“Just like the business world, you make the best decision for your company,” Bond told ESPN in a phone interview Sunday. “My company right now is my draft stock. I feel like I’m putting myself in position to increase that and have better draft stock.”

Bond will be eligible for the NFL Draft for the first time in 2025, following his junior season in 2024.

Bond was installed Friday as the No. 1-rated wide receiver and No. 2 overall prospect in the portal, per the 247Sports transfer rankings. Bond was a Top 50 national recruit and the No. 2-rated ATH by 247Sports in the class of 2022.

Sunday’s commitment comes three days after Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers announced he would return to Texas next season as a fourth-year junior. Bond figures to be one of Ewers’ top targets after he threw for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2023. Ewers, though, could face offseason competition from redshirt freshman Arch Manning. It is unclear if Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will open the job to competition during spring practice.

“One hundred percent,” Bond told ESPN of a potential connection with Ewers. “He’s a great, big-time pocket-passer quarterback. He’s a top pick in the draft next year. I’m also going to be a top pick. It’s going to be a good duo.”

Bond was on the receiving end of the now-famous fourth-and-31 touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter of Alabama’s Iron Bowl win over Auburn. That win kept the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff hopes alive before they beat Georgia in the SEC championship game Dec. 2. That win propelled Alabama into the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed, where they fell to eventual-national champion Michigan in overtime of a CFP semifinal at the Rose Bowl.

Between the SEC title game and the Rose Bowl, Bond had nine catches for 126 yards.

Texas remains in the market for help at wide receiver with Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittingtona all headed to the NFL Draft. Worthy, Mitchell and Whittington finished 1-2-3 for the Longhorns in both catches and yards as part of a 12-2 season that ended in a CFP semifinal at the Sugar Bowl.
Last month, Texas grabbed a commitment from another highly-rated transfer portal wide receiver, Houston sophomore Matthew Golden, who caught 76 passes for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns in two seasons for the Cougars. 247Sports currently has Golden as the No. 7-rated wide receiver from the portal, and the No. 35 overall prospect.
