TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – It’s the Iron Bowl on the hardwood as No. 8 Auburn travels to Coleman Coliseum to face the Alabama Crimson Tide Wednesday night. Both teams are currently among the best in the Southeastern Conference as a lead in the conference standings is on the line.

Last time the Tigers were on the road in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide erased a 17-point deficit to win in overtime and clinch the SEC regular season title. The roles may feel a bit reversed this time around as Auburn was unranked in last year’s game and the Crimson Tide were a top-ranked team. Now, Auburn cruises in as one of the country’s best.

Auburn is considered to have a deeper team as the Tigers rank third in the country in bench points. Alabama swept the Tigers last year, but no team has won three consecutive match-ups in the series since Alabama did so in 2015.

“If they beat us, they’re two games out and they’ve given themselves an unbelievable lead to win the league,” Alabama head men’s basketball coach Nate Oats said. “If we beat them, we’re tied for first place and we’re right there competing for a league championship again. So, this game has meaning across the country not just in the state of Alabama now.”
