Another former Alabama football defensive back is staying in the SEC. Jameer Grimsley announced Sunday that he’ll be heading to Florida via the transfer portal.

Grimsley was one of several Alabama players to enter the portal following the retirement of Nick Saban and hire of Kalen DeBoer as the Crimson Tide’s new head coach. Saban’s departure opened up a 30-day entry window for UA players.

He announced the move on his social media on Sunday. The commitment was first reported by On3 Sports.

Grimsley joined cornerback Trey Amos as Alabama DBs staying in-conference. Amos already announced his transfer to Ole Miss.

As a member of the class of 2024, Grimsley never actually played in a game for the Crimson Tide. However, as an early enrollee, he joined the team for practices ahead of UA’s appearance in the College Football Playoff’s Rose bowl semifinal.

He was a four-star prospect in his recruiting class. He had initially chosen Alabama over the Gators, along with Florida State, Michigan and more.

Grimsley was the No. 17 cornerback in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports composite. The same rating had him as the 189th-ranked overall player in the class.

He wasn’t the only early enrollee to leave upon Saban’s departure. Five-star quarterback Julian Sayin announced his transfer to Ohio State earlier on Sunday.
