ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is not one to hold back his opinions. When it comes to talking about the Miami Dolphins and their chances against the Kansas City Chiefs, he’s not making any exceptions.

As the results rolled in from Sunday’s games, Shannon Sharpe, Molly Qerim, and Smith broke down the playoff teams and upcoming matchups on ESPN’s “First Take” segment. As a result of Sunday night’s 21-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins slipped to the sixth seed and now prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.

To make matters worse, Kansas City’s weather on Saturday has a projected high of 9 degrees and a low of -3 degrees. According to John Breech of CBS Sports, a temperature of 5 degrees would make it the coldest NFL game since 2016. Ironically, the coldest game in Dolphins’ franchise history was in Kansas City in 2008, as temperatures reached 10 degrees.

“No hope! I’m not giving Miami any hope in that weather because they’re going on the road, they’re going against a decent team, and to me, the only shot Miami has is for Patrick Mahomes’ receivers to drop the football. Which is obviously plausible considering what we’ve seen this season, but that’s the only chance,” Smith said.
The Dolphins have a whopping 0-10 record in their past 10 outings under 40 degrees, let alone below-freezing temperatures.

Sharpe was in agreement, but he’s not picking the Chiefs because of the weather. “I’m taking the Chiefs for the simple fact that the Dolphins have only beaten one team that has a winning record, they’re on the road, and Tua [Tagovailoa] hasn’t played well in the last couple of games.”

Miami’s loss to the Bills stings a little more knowing that with a win, they would have hosted in 79-degree weather.
