New Rangers signing Fabio Silva could feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hertha Berlin on Saturday, according to Scottish Daily Mail.

The Scots news outlet, shared in its print edition (11 January, page 69) that the Wolves loanee was part of the Light Blues squad that travelled to Spain for a warm-weather training camp on Wednesday (10 January).

Silva joined Philippe Clement’s ranks at Ibrox on loan from Wolves for the second half of the season and made his Rangers debut just before the winter break as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Kilmarnock.

The hope is that Silva will help solve the problems the Light Blues have faced in front of goal in the first half of the season and could be in line for much-needed minutes against the Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Needs minutes

As exciting an acquisition as he is, it does feel as though Rangers have signed a bit of an unknown quantity in Silva this January.

He hasn’t been a genuine number nine during most of his loan spells away from Molineux and even when deployed there, he has struggled to score goals consistently.

More crucially, he’s barely played all season which makes this signing at Ibrox a huge risk but one which Philippe Clement was prepared to take so Rangers fans must trust his judgement given the tremendous progress he’s made.

The Portuguese striker desperately needs minutes in his legs and match rhythm if he is to fire on all cylinders as soon as possible and a start against Hertha Berlin could be a real boost for him.

If he hits the ground running at Ibrox, he will likely help Rangers in their fight at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, but it is a huge responsibility to expect him to single-handedly score the goals to fire them to the title.
