Neil Lennon has highlighted a real concern he is seeing in this Celtic side under Brendan Rodgers and how it lacks that bite.

From Kyogo FuruhashI to Matt O’Riley, these guys are quick, nimble and technically outstanding players.

But that lack of physical nature, mainly in the middle of the pitch, is a worry for Neil Lennon and he thinks it needs to be addressed, as he told PLZ Soccer.

For many, many years, Celtic had Scott Brown boss proceedings and let everyone know who was running the ship from the middle of the park.

Then there was the underrated Victor Wanyama. A powerhouse in midfield, with an aggressive nature needed in this Celtic side today.

It would be game-changing if Brendan Rodgers could find players of that quality, via the transfer market, to fit into the team.

It seems as though there will be some form of action during the January transfer window and Neil Lennon is pretty clear in what he would do.

Celtic’s lack of physical nature

“That’s always been my concern with this group of players is the lack of physicality,” said Lennon.

“A very small team and very quick. But if you get up against them, particularly in Europe. They suffer.

“I was always of the opinion that they needed another number nine and definitely a number six. Like a Brown or Wanyama type. Somebody who could manage the game when they are under pressure like they were against Kilmarnock. And I think they lack that.”

Celtic’s defeat at Kilmarnock

Yes, it was disappointing losing the unbeaten run at Kilmarnock, but the team is still top and you would still back the Bhoys to win on December 30.

The main issue with the weekend loss was the manner of it and how you could feel it coming.

Callum McGregor is Mr Reliable in the middle of the pitch for Celtic, but with Reo Hatate out injured in recent months, it’s obvious that help and added quality is needed in that area.

That surely has to be at the top of the January transfer wishlist for Rodgers.
