Practice squads can begin to be assembled by NFL teams after the waiver claim period for players waived on Tuesday passes at noon ET on Wednesday. Which players will comprise the New York Giants’ initial 16-man practice squad?

Use this post to track reported signings to the practice squad.

Teams can sign any free agent player to their practice squad, subject to the league’s limitations on the number of veteran players who can be added to a practice squad. Most players signed to an initial practice squad were with their teams during the preseason.

The practice squad eligibility rules I posted earlier this week seemed to draw some argument, even though they are taken directly from the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Via Russell Street Report, here is another explanation of practice squad eligibility:

Practice squad players can be elevated to the game day roster three times.

To clarify another point of confusion, there are no weekly practice squad protections. During the 2021 COVID season teams were allowed to protect four players each week who could not be signed to another team’s active roster. That is no longer the case.

How much do practice squad players make? Players with two accrued seasons or less will earn $12,000 for each week they are on a practice squad. Players with more than two accrued seasons will earn at least $16,100 per week with a maximum of $20,000.

The Giants needed a tight end for their practice squad after placing Chris Myarick on IR and Tommy Sweeney on the Non-Football Injury list. They have reportedly found one. Tyree Jackson, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, was a college quarterback at Buffalo. Jackson originally signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted player in 2019, beginning his career at quarterback. He played in 14 games over the past two seasons at tight end with the Eagles.

Wide receiver David Sills is signing with a practice squad, but moving on from the Giants. He had been with the team since 2019.

Tyre Phillips was a surprise cut from the Giants’ 53-man roster. Phillips cleared waivers, though, and is reportedly returning to the team’s practice squad.

It looks like running back Jashaun Corbin will be moving on. Leonard is now reporting that Corbin with join the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad

Veteran wide receiver Cole Beasley will join the Giants’ practice squad. The 34-year-old Beasley is still working his way back from training camp leg issues.

Tommy DeVito is back! The undrafted free agent quarterback is signing with the Giants’ practice squad.

The Giants will add a young former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver to their practice squad as Dennis Houston is joining the team. Houston caught five passes for 62 yards in the preseason. Houston, 24, played in two games for Dallas last season and caught two passes for 16 yards.

Head coach Brian Daboll reveals that Darrian Beavers, Oshane Ximines and Tomon Fox are all among players who will be returning to the Giants as members of the practice squad.

Add cornerback Amani Oruwariye and tight end Ryan Jones to the list of players Daboll confirmed as returning. Kalil Pimpleton also returning to the practice squad.
