MONTREAL – CF Montréal Academy players Khadijah Cissé, Inès Nourani, Juliette Perreault, Liana Tarasco and Marée-Anne Van Doesburg have been called up by the Canadian U17 national team for a training camp in Troia, Portugal, from November 16 to 18. They will then play two friendly games in Lisbon against Portugal on November 21 and 23.

The five players currently play for the CF Montréal Academy Women’s Program, cofounded by BMO, in the semi-professional provincial league Ligue1 Québec. They all took part last August in the U17 Women’s Concacaf qualifier where Canada won a spot for the Concacaf Championship next February in Mexico.

Cissé is a 15-year-old goalkeeper from CS Longueuil. Nourani, a 16-year-old fullback, was trained at Royal Sélect de Beauport. 16-year-old Perreault (Celtix du Haut-Richelieu), Tarasco (CS Les Étoiles de l’Est) and Van Doesburg (Lakeshore SC) all play as midfielders.

Courtois, 45, had served as manager of the Columbus Crew’s MLS Next Pro side, Columbus Crew 2, leading them to a championship in 2022 and this past season’s final. He also has academy coaching experience at both Columbus and boyhood club Lyon.

As a player, the Lyon native had a 17-year pro career with stops in Ligue 1 with Toulouse, the Premier League with West Ham and La Liga with Levante. A midfielder, Courtois also spent three seasons in MLS with Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy.

Former Vancouver Whitecaps defender and current Charlotte FC assistant manager Pa-Modou Kah was a finalist for the job, Bogert notes. Courtois becomes the club’s seventh manager since 2017.
