The Green Bay Packers are coming off what some people (fans – AKA me) are saying is their biggest win in YEARS. Jordan Love demonstrated poise, accuracy and a gunslinger mentality to the game, reminiscent of a certain former Green Bay legend.

One of the more overlooked, yet equally impressive tenets of Sunday night was the Packers’ ability to restrict the Patrick Mahomes-lead Kansas City Chiefs to under 20 points at Lambeau Field.

Yet, despite the success against what is a potent, but not lethal Chiefs offense, Green Bay have decided to add another defensive back to their somewhat thin secondary, per Adam Schefter.

Packers claimed CB David Long Jr. off waivers from the Carolina Panthers, signed RB Kenyan Drake to their practice squad and released RB James Robinson from their practice squad.

How Does This Benefit The Green Bay Packers’ Defense?

Whilst the Green Bay Packers haven’t exactly added an All-Pro to their ranks, David Long Jr. is a moderately experienced starting corner in the NFL. With injuries keeping out Jaire Alexander and the still-recovering Eric Stokes, the Packers were already shorthanded on the back end of the defense.

Combine this with the Packers’ front office’s shrewd move to trade veteran corner Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills, and Green Bay are worryingly thin at the corner position that currently has rookie 7th Round Pick, Carrington Vallentine starting opposite Corey Ballentine and electric return specialist, Keisean Nixon in the nickle.

Having Long now alongside another former Panther, Robert Rochell gives the Packers defense a bit more breathing room in case of further injuries or poor form, even with Alexander and Stokes due to return before the end of the season. Especially if, and this is looking more and more possible with each Green Bay performance, the Packers are able to sneak their way into the playoffs.
