The better part of the past 48 hours of the AFL trade landscape has been dominated by Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver’s situation.

The Demons, who have been said to be potentially open to a deal if the right offer arises, have reportedly told the four-time best and fairest winner to ‘shape up or ship off’.

Meanwhile, a star Bulldogs goalkicker has turned his back on 2024 rival overtures, instead putting pen to paper on a gargantuan extension to cement his Western Bulldogs future.

Also on the player movement front; a forgotten off-contract Power forward is reportedly planning to meet with an interstate rival as his AFL future hangs in the balance.

Here’s all the latest from the AFL trade news and rumours space.

Contracted Sun nominates trade destination

Contracted Suns forward Mabior Chol appears set to return to Melbourne for the 2024 season after nominating Hawthorn as his desired location for a trade.

Despite being tied to Gold Coast for a further two seasons, Chol, 26, has opted out at Carrara, instead seeking to join Sam Mitchell’s men at some stage throughout the next fortnight.

While Hawthorn’s offer to Chol looks set to win out, the former Tiger had been courted by each of the Crows and Kangaroos.

However, as reported by AFL Media‘s Callum Twomey on Thursday, the Roos have joined the Crows in being gazumped, with Hawthorn now tipped to land the VFL premiership player.

Lion opts to stay, not go

Out-of-contract Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson will remain with the Lions for the next two seasons, with the Western Australian turning his back on a homecoming at West Coast.

Robertson played 16 senior games for Brisbane this season, including the Lions’ Grand Final defeat to Collingwood.

The 22-year-old averaged nine disposals, two marks, and two tackles across the season, displaying his potential as a mainstay in Brisbane’s elite engine room.

Hailing from Western Australia, West Coast had shown continued interest in luring the former Pick 22 home, offering the potential of greater midfield opportunity among a youthful and emerging crop.

However, as reported by Callum Twomey of AFL Media on Thursday, the nephew of former Eagles skipper Darren Glass is set to remain loyal to the Lions and is poised to pen a two-year contract.

Naughton pens astronomical Dogs deal

Western Bulldogs key forward Aaron Naughton has removed any doubt of a 2024 departure, signing a monumental eight-year contract extension at the Kennel.

The deal ties Naughton to the Bulldogs until at least 2032, ruling out a potential rival play for the high-marking left-footer next year.

The 2024 off-season shapes as key-forward-rich, with the likes of Ben King, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, and Todd Marshall coming off contract. Naughton, who was a part of that tantalising crop before last night, is now off the table.
