The NY Jets have been through the whole quarterback carousel situation far too often in recent memory, and that has very much been the case in 2023.

The Jets have already started three different quarterbacks this season, and the expectation is that they’ll add a fourth to that list on Sunday. With Zach Wilson unlikely to play due to a concussion, veteran Trevor Siemian is next in line to start in Week 16.

Siemian was inserted in relief of Wilson this past Sunday after the former No. 2 overall pick exited just before halftime. While he’s made two appearances for the Jets this season, this will be his first start for the team.

To recap, the Jets have now started Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, Zach Wilson again, and soon-to-be Siemian at quarterback over the last four months. Why not throw Brett Rypien out there in Week 17 to make it five?

Trevor Siemian is expected to start for the NY Jets in Week 16

Siemian was signed to the Jets practice squad in September following the injury to Rodgers, but he wasn’t promoted to the active roster until late November when Wilson was initially benched.

In two games so far this season, Siemian has completed 49 percent of his passes, thrown for zero interceptions, tossed a pair of interceptions, and fumbled a whopping four times. It hasn’t been pretty for the former Pro Bowl alternate (yes, that’s real).

Of course, none of the Jets’ quarterbacks have fared particularly well this season behind a disaster of an offensive line and a mess of an offensive coaching staff.

Unfortunately, the Jets are used to the frequent quarterback turnover. This is actually the second year in a row that the Jets have started four different quarterbacks, as Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco, and Chris Streveler (he started as the wild cat QB in the Jaguars game) all started last season.

This was nearly the case in 2021 as well, as the likes of Wilson, White, and Flacco all started, while Josh Johnson played almost the entirety of one game as well. Johnson wasn’t credited with a start, but he threw 41 times in a Week 9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

The quarterback carousel continues for the Jets. Here’s to hoping Siemian’s first start of the season goes a bit better than his lone start with the Jets during his first stint with the team in 2019.
