Nottingham Forest still believe they’ve signed two players in the summer who can improve their defence. Yesterday, the team lost 3-0 to Liverpool and the performance was drab, to say the least.

Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Dominguez were both in the team at Anfield. Those two players were signed on transfer deadline day and it would appear that the club have big hopes for them both.

Whilst the club signed many players during the summer transfer window, those two were the two that caught the eye. Sangare was added as the club’s marquee signing after Brennan Johnson had joined Tottenham.

Forest believe Sangare and Dominguez can improve the team

The Athletic has delivered some of the thought process behind what Forest were thinking when adding Sangare and Dominguez. It’s fair to say that the two players are both still striving for top form since signing in the summer.

The article written by The Athletic, claims: “Sangare, the Ivory Coast international, and the industrious Dominguez were players Forest believed could provide the level of protection in front of the back four that would allow those around them a greater degree of attacking freedom. The club still believe this.”

Both players are taking some time to settle in. It’s fair to say that Dominguez has settled a little bit better than Sangare who appears to be settling into life in England pretty slowly at the moment.

Forest have to improve

At the moment the Reds are sleepwalking towards another relegation battle. Yesterday’s result was perhaps expected but the level of performance was an absolute shambles.

Forest failed to do the fundamentals at Anfield. The team looks resigned to defeat from the off and too many players experienced off-days.

In terms of Sangare, he failed to track his runner for the second goal yesterday. It wasn’t a great performance from him and he will hope to kick on at a better rate in the coming weeks.

There is still time for Sangare and Dominguez to get up to speed though. The season is still in its infancy and hopefully, Forest can see the best of both players in the future.
